Best Ways to Make $1,000 – Fiverr

I make more money on Fiverr than any other online medium. In the last 7 months, I have made $645 in sales, which translates to $516 after Fiverr fees.

This exceeded the money I have made from this blog, UpWork, EBay and Amazon.

Of all my sales, only one has been for $5. The $5 gig was the same thing I sell on this site for $1.99, but I have a lot more time in sending that form through Fiverr. It took several messages back-and-forth before the buyer and I determined what he needed, whereas on this site, a buyer is typically already self-informed and can preview before purchase.

My other sales have ranged from doing a $20 tax extension to a couple of business tax returns for $250. I typically have averaged about $40 to $125 an hour before fees on the services I performed.

Since I do not need the money, I have turned down many opportunities to create a custom gig. Also, most that I gave a custom gig to have not purchased, thus I rarely bid now. I have found that those on Fiverr are looking for the cheapest price, not necessarily the best service.

For tax work that I sign my name to, I won’t take any gigs that I do not make at least $90 an hour on. For planning and consulting work, $25-40 per hour is acceptable if I do not have a lot going on elsewhere and they allow me a longer lead time.

I did not start until March 2018, but based on how many requests I received, I believe if I had a fee that averaged around $50 an hour, I would have nearly unlimited work during the ten weeks of tax time.

In order for Fiverr to work best for you, you need a technical skill set. You can do other tasks, like data entry, cold calling, etc.., but you will only make about $8 an hour after fees.

While I do tax preparation and related, things like graphic design, video and audio production and anything in tech are big sellers and at decent fees.

Fiverr has four seller levels:

  • New Seller
  • Level I
  • Level II
  • Top Rated Seller

Since I have not done ten sales yet, I’m still a New Seller. Five more gigs an I will graduate to Level I and can do 10 active gigs instead of seven.

What I have found most successful is to offer a base gig, but note additions are extra. After reviewing or discussing what the buyer wants, you can do a custom gig for up to $5,000 ($10,000 for Top Rated Sellers.)

One thing to note, it takes a while to get your money in Fiverr. Once you submit an order, it takes 3 days for the order to be marked complete so the purchaser can review. After that, it takes another 14 days (7 for Top Rated Sellers)  to clear. Finally it takes a day to transfer, so about 18 days to get your money.

I have had a few scammers contact me, three people asking me to prepare fake returns to turn in to loan officers. They did not tell me they were fake, but after speaking with, it was obvious.

All-in-all I like Fiverr. It’s a lot easier to get business than through UpWork. I think I will continue to grow my business with Fiverr.
